SOCIAL EVENING AT FAIRFIELD.

A social evening was held in the Fairfield Hall, Fairfield Park, on Wednesday, 12th inst., under the auspices of the Fairfield Orange Lodge. The occasion took the form of a pound night and welcome home to Bro L.J. KIMPTON, on his return from the South African War.

Bro O.R. Snowball, District Grand Master, presided, and gave a patriotic address, dwelling particularly on the great responsibility resting on every true Briton, and, certainly, every Orangeman. He gave great credit to the management of the Boer War and stated that the institution was better represented in the contingents that went from Australia to South Africa than any other organisation. Upon concluding a very able address, he eulogised Bro Leslie KIMPTON for being one of those who assisted the Empire and presented him with a beautiful gold five-pointed star, appropriately and suitably inscribed.

Bro KIMPTON responded in acknowledgement.

A. splendid programme was rendered by first-class talent, including several items on a gramophone lent by Messrs Tye and Co.
