PRESENTATION TO A LOCAL ACTIVE SERVICE VOLUNTEER. – The members of Mr David Kennedy’s Young Men’s Bible Class presented one of their number, Private John STRUTHERS, who is leaving for the front, with a handsome dressing-case, suitably inscribed, at the close of the meeting last Sunday evening. Mr MacInnes, town missionary, presided over the meeting, in the absence of Mr Kennedy, who was indisposed, and explained that the presentation was being made that night because there was no other opportunity of meeting Mr STRUTHERS. He called upon Mr Robert Lyon, secretary of the class, to make the presentation. Mr Lyon did so in appropriate terms, and Mr STRUTHERS, in a few well-chosen remarks, thanked the class for their kindness. The inscription on the case was as follows – “Presented to Private John Struthers, 4th Batt. A. and S. Highlanders, by the members of Mr David Kennedy’s Bible Class, as a mark of respect and esteem on his leaving for the seat of war, South Africa. Falkirk, February, 1901”.
