Private P. BACON has been in C Company for about six years. He is a sturdy fellow, standing about 5 ft. 6 in., and is a splendid shot. He was a member of C Company’s shooting team, and, besides, as an individual marksman, secured numerous prizes at the range. He also took a deep and practical interest in the work of the gymnastic class. He was employed in the Falkirk Iron Works as a patternmaker, and on his leaving, his employers showed their esteem for him by making him the recipient of a handsome gold albert. BACON, who is 24 years of age, lives with his parents in David’s Loan, Bainsford.
Private A. DICK, who was a moulder in Port Downie, resides with his parents at Sunnyside, Camelon. It is three years since D Company saw him first as a recruit, and in the interval from then till now he has proved himself a rifleman of more than average standard – at the range, as well as at drill. He is a smart young fellow, reaches 5ft. 8 in., and was a regular attender at the gymnastic class.
Private J. BELL, of D Company, is 23 years of age, was employed as a moulder in Falkirk iron works, and resides with his parents in Melville Street. He is an exceedingly sturdy lad – measuring 5 ft. 7 in. For over four years he has been connected with D Company, and handles his rifle with more than average ability, besides being an enthusiast in the gymnasium.

On Saturday it was stated that Private BACON, of Falkirk, received a gold albert from his employers. This was incorrect, the presentation being given by a number of BACON’s fellow employees.

PRESENTATIONS TO FALKIRK VOLUNTEERS. – Last Monday evening, Privates James BELL and James WALKER, two of the local men who have volunteered for active service, were met in Connochie’s Temperance Hotel by a number of their fellow workmen of the Falkirk Iron Works, and each presented with a gold albert and badge, suitably inscribed. Mr Tom Connochie presided, and Mr James Grant, in the unavoidable absence of Mr Callander, the general manager, made the presentation, Mr BELL acknowledging the gifts for Mr WALKER and himself. An enjoyable evening was afterwards spent with song, &c. It will be remembered that a few weeks ago Private BACON, another of the Volunteers and an employee of this foundry, was made the recipient of a similar present. On Saturday, Privates BACON, BELL, and WALKER met Mr Callander in the manager’s room at the works, and were presented on behalf of the firm with a handsome field glass each. Mr Callander made the presentation, and Private BACON replied on behalf of himself and his comrade.
