Gold medal, to:
2nd Volunteer Active Service Company, Highland Light Infantry –
8391 Private Thomas GORDON
Obverse with recipient's monogram: "TG".
Reverse: "PRESENTED TO / T. GORDON / From His Fellow-workers / ON HIS / VOLUNTEERING / FOR S. AFRICA / 8/2/01".
Probably subscribed for by fellow-workers at the Albion Leather Works, Baltic Street, Glasgow. Thomas Gordon worked as a "beltmaker", and lived at 10 Old Dalmarnock Road, across the road from the Albion Works. Another factory, the Dalmarnock Leather Works, situated further to the southeast, is also a contender.

No 10 Old Dalmarnock Road was somewhere in the area of the two tall buildings shown in blue.
1905 valuation rolls show 17 families living at No 10. It is feasible, therefore, that No 10 is the taller of these two buildings.
