HONOUR TO A KINROSS LAD.

Lance-Corporal Wm. BUCHANAN, 5th V.B. H.L.I. (Glasgow Highlanders), who volunteered and has been accepted for the front, was entertained to supper in Messrs White & Smith’s Restaurant, Glassford Street, Glasgow, on Monday last. The chair was occupied by Mr James Drummond, partner of the firm of Messrs Geo. Stewart & Co., 67 Miller Street, Glasgow. After a sumptuous repast, the usual patriotic toasts were given, “The Queen” by the Chairman, and “Army, Navy, and Auxiliary Forces”, by Mr Robert H. Sartin, and replied to by Lance-Corporal Waterloo, of the Scottish Rifles. Amongst the songs rendered were “Soldiers of the Queen”, by Mr Johnstone, and “True, true till death”, by Mr Craib. An admirable recitation was given by Mr Galloway, entitled “Majuba Hill”. The Chairman, in a characteristic speech, presented Lance-Corpl. BUCHANAN with a handsome gold albert and appendant from Messrs Geo. Stewart & Co., employees, and friends. Mr Wm. Jeffreys, in name of a few companions, presented him with a pair of binocular field-glasses; and Mr Robert H. Sartin also presented him with a magnificent silver-mounted pipe. Lance-Corporal BUCHANAN feelingly replied. Mr Neil Macintyre, the cashier of the firm of Messrs Geo. Stewart & Co., proposed the health of the guest, wishing him God-speed and a safe return from South Africa. On the motion of Mr Walker Thomson, a vote of thanks to the Chairman was heartily accorded, and an enjoyable evening closed with the company joining in the singing of “God Save the Queen” and “Auld Lang Syne”. Lance-Corporal BUCHANAN served his apprenticeship with Messrs Frank Whyte & Co., Miloathort, and later with Mr Chas. Archibald there.
