A pleasant gathering took place in the local schoolroom on Thursday evening last, when a large number of residents of the surrounding district met to welcome Trooper E.J. SMITH, who has just returned home, after spending twelve months with the South Australian Fifth Contingent, Imperial Bushmen, in South Africa. The meeting was presided over by Mr W. Mugford, who proposed the health of the guest. Mr Manley, sen., and Mr R. Kennedy also spoke in flattering terms of the returned trooper, who suitably responded, and gave an interesting description of the contingent's services in Africa. The Chairman, on behalf of the committee, presented Trooper SMITH with a silver medal.
