7013 Corporal Andrew MURDOCH [Murdock]
7016 Private William CALDOW
7014 Private James KIRK
7010 Private John McKIE

Obverse with recipient's monogram: "WC" [for William Caldow].
Reverse: "PRESENTED BY / FRIENDS / IN THE / GLENKENS".
Case: "G.R.V. / SOUTH AFRICA / 1900".
As of June 2022, no record of this presentation has been found.
Without the case, this medal is unlikely to be identified as an Anglo-Boer War tribute. The inscription makes no mention of South Africa, the date of presentation, or that it was given for military service. It does not even include the name of the recipient, only being engraved with his initials.
Note: this medal is similar to the LISKEARD tribute. Both medals have the maker's mark "V & S" for Vaughton & Sons, Birmingham (see below).

The medal was presented in a fitted case provided by the manufacturer whose name and address is shown on the lid. The outside of the case is inscribed G.R.V. / SOUTH AFRICA / 1900.
According to the Hon. Curator of the Stewartry Museum, Kirkcudbright, to whom I am indebted for permitting the medal to be photographed, the Glenkens tribute medals were given to men who had volunteered for service in the Galloway Rifle Volunteers but the number awarded is unknown. This medal is the first of its type to be recorded.
The Liskeard and Glenkens medals, both manufactured by Vaughton & Sons, Birmingham.
