The above is a portrait of Mr Wm. NICOL, Fernhall, Glenfarg, who sails today (Saturday) from Southampton for South Africa along with a contingent of the Fife and Forfar Imperial Yeomanry. Enlisting as a volunteer about a fortnight ago, he was, along with the first draft that left Cupar, conveyed to Aldershot, at which military station he has undergone some hard training to fit him for the front. After his departure from Glenfarg a few of his friends, under the management of Mr McFarlane, baker, started a subscription list, and on Thursday there was despatched to Trooper NICOL  a beautiful gold albert and appendage, with inscription, together with a parcel of tobacco, cigarettes, cigars, pipe, and pouch. Mr NICOL was well known by a large circle of agriculturists in the counties of Perth, Fife, and Kinross, and was a good judge of farm stock. He was also a keen curler and bowler, while at glass ball competitions he proved himself an expert shot and plucky sportsman. Of a cheerful and happy-go-lucky disposition, Bill was liked by all, and his comrades in the Yeomanry will find him a true and staunch companion.
