KYNETON.
On Saturday Sergeant Walker THOMSON, of Baynton, Corporal SIDDLE, of Barfold, and Troopers N. JARRETT, of Kyneton, and W.G. CLARKE, of Edgecombe, who recently arrived home in the Morayshire from the South African war, came to Kyneton. They were welcomed at the railway station by Mr Argyle, M.L.A., Councillors Hill and Duncan, of the Kyneton shire, Councillor N. Irwin (president of Metcalfe shire), and other representative residents, the total gathering numbering over a thousand. The returning soldiers marched through two lines of militia men, cadets, riflemen, and members of the Fire Brigade, and were conveyed in a large drag to the Junction Hotel, where they were entertained at dinner. Afterwards they appeared on the stage at a public meeting held in the Mechanics' Institute Hall. Mr Argyle, M.L.A., presided, and speeches congratulating the returned men were made. A presentation is to be made to the men.
