MOFFAT.
The Moffat contingent arrived home from Dumfries in the afternoon, and had an official welcome from the municipality and a tremendous reception by the inhabitants. After a march through the streets, “Soldiers of the Queen” was sung by the pupils of the Academy in front of the building. In the evening a dinner took place in the Annandale Hotel. Provost Kennedy presided, and proposed the toast of the evening, “Our Guests”, which was honoured with great enthusiasm. Sergt. CUTHBERTSON replied. Each of the service men was then presented with a gold medal and a couple of sovereigns. A smoking concert followed. Tomorrow evening a united thanksgiving service will be held in the Parish Church.
