NEWTYLE.

Honour to Local Active Service Volunteers.

On Saturday evening the members of K Company V.B.R.H. (Angus Rifles) entertained their two active service members – Privates D. EDWARDS and Jas. ROBERTSON – recently returned from South Africa at a supper and smoking concert in the Wharncliffe Hall – Major White, Glamis, presiding, and Lieut. C. Ralston and Sergeant J. Robertson acting as croupiers. Amongst those present were: – The Rev. G.B. Lunan; Rev. E. Millar; Mr W. Millar, Keillor; Mr A. Simpson and Mr C.S. Arnton, Hatton; Captain D.C. Burman; Mr W. Findlay; Mr W. Tasker, Camno; Mr Jas. White, Hayston; Mr W. Johnston, Arneyfoul; Mr John Henry, Newtyle; Mr J.C. Bell, Auchtertyre; Mr J.J. Simpson; Mr Alex. Millar; Mr W. Annand; &c. After an excellent supper, there followed the usual loyal toasts. Major White presented the two returned volunteers with a gold albert and appendage from the company and a few local friends as a mark of their esteem and appreciation of their services. Subsequently an extensive programme of toasts and songs was gone through, a very enjoyable evening being spent.
