SUBURBAN WELCOMES.

One of the most enthusiastic gatherings ever held in Northcote took place last evening, being a smoke night, arranged by the local branch of the A.N.A., at which six returned members of the Victorian contingents, viz.: - Lieutenant AHEARN, Sergeant PROWSE, Lance-Corporal PROWSE, Farrier CAREY, Private HENDRIC, and Private DITCHBURN (Ballarat) were entertained. On being introduced the men received quite a splendid welcome from the company, which numbered about 100. Lieutenant AHEARN was presented by his old comrades in the local cricket club with a gold locket set with diamonds, and suitably inscribed.
