PRESENTATION.

A very pleasant incident took place at the close of the readings held in the Romahapa Hall last Friday evening, when Mr R.A. LEDINGHAM, late Lance-Corp. 7th N.Z. Contingent, was made the recipient of a small present from his friends in the district. The chairman of the readings (Mr W. Peterson) was entrusted with the task of making the presentation on behalf of the social committee, and in the course of a few remarks expressed the committee’s regret that they had been unable to make the presentation at their social held in the Lance-Corp’s honour a short time before, but now took the first opportunity of a public gathering to do so. Lance-Corp. LEDINGHAM, in a few well-chosen words, returned thanks to the committee and friends. The assembled gathering then sang “For his is a jolly good fellow” finishing up with three cheers for LEDINGHAM. The present took the form of a gold Maltese cross, bearing, on one side the inscription – “From friends to L.-Corp. Ledingham, 7th N.Z. Contingent, S.A. War. Romahapa, 1-7-02”.
