Trooper Buckingham had already received an inscribed watch from the inhabitants of Teignmouth.

Watch inscribed with recipient's monogram and: "Presented to Trooper W. Buckingham, 79th Co., I.Y. by the inhabitants of Teignmouth on his return from the South African campaign, July, 1901".

TEIGNMOUTH.

On Saturday Teignmouth Company Rifle Volunteers left for their week’s drill in camp at Aldershot. At the Drill Hall a pleasing ceremony was performed. Colour-Sergeant Hooper presented Trooper BUCKINGHAM with a gold medallion, upon which was engraved his monogram and the following: – “Presented to Trooper W. Buckingham, 79th Co. Imperial Yeomanry, by his comrades of the I Company, 1st R.V., on his returning from the South African campaign, July, 1901”.
