This silver cigarette case was presented to Colour-Sergeant Ross by members of the 1st Volunteer Active Service Company, Seaforth Highlanders (Draft).
Amongst the names engraved on the case are those of Privates BOYNE and TAYLOR.

URQUHART.
PRESENTATION OF MEDALS TO THE URQUHART SERVICE VOLUNTEERS.
The two Urquhart Volunteers Seaforths – Private Alex. BOYNE and Alex. TAYLOR – who recently returned from the front, were present in their regimentals on Monday afternoon at the weekly musico-physical drill exhibition in the Urquhart Public School, where they were formerly pupils, and at the close were each decorated with an engraved gold badge, in recognition of their gallant conduct and patriotic service evinced by their taking part in the South African war. The medals bear the Volunteer crest and motto and other suitable engraved inscriptions, and are suspended by the Seaforth ribbon, surmounted by embellished gold band with pin.
