Reception to the Brothers Ashton.

On Thursday evening a number of friends of Lance-Corporal W. ASHTON and Trooper A. ASHTON, of the Bridge Inn, Warrington, who have recently returned from the seat of war, where they have been serving with the Yeomanry and Volunteers respectively, entertained them at a “social” at the Winmarleigh Café. During the evening opportunity was taken of presenting the returned soldiers with handsome gold medals, beautifully designed. The medals bear the Coat of Arms, the Crown, and Union Jack, and one side is suitably inscribed. Captain F.M. Appleton made the presentation and delivered a brief speech. Dancing was indulged in from 8 o’clock until 2 this morning. …….

Lance-Corporal W. Ashton and Trooper A. Ashton are both prominent members of the Warrington Polo team. A. Ashton prior to his departure for the front was one of the Champion eight at the Gymnasium, and Walter prior to his departure was a member of the Warrington “A” team, and in all probability will figure in their ranks again this season.
