The regiment sailed on the Victorian on 22nd January 1901. On arrival they were put into Colonel Bethune's brigade, and their doings are practically the same as those of the 1st King's Dragoon Guards, to whose heading reference is made.
The regiment had frequently sharp fighting in the Orange River Colony, particularly in the Vrede district, but seems to have escaped with a comparatively light casualty list.
During the campaign 2 officers were mentioned in Lord Kitchener's despatches for good work in the Orange River Colony; 2 officers were mentioned in Lord Roberts' despatches of 2nd April and 4th September 1901, they having been employed outside the regiment; and in his final despatch Lord Kitchener mentioned 2 officers, 2 non-commissioned officers, and 1 private.
