5530.WALSH, THOMAS. Company QUARTER MASTER SERGEANT, 1 ROYAL MUNSTER FUSILIERS – D.C.M. KILLED – COMPANY QUARTER MASTER SERGEANT THOMAS WALSH – son of Mrs. Margaret Walsh, Lisnabein, Curraglass, near Tallow. Deceased joined the 1st Munster Fusiliers on 19th May, 1897. With his battalion he fought in the South African War, where he won the D.C.M., also the Queen’s South Africa Medal, and the King’s South Africa Medal. From South Africa he was called on with his regiment to the north west frontier of India, where he was engaged in active service, and was awarded medal and clasp. From India he was sent with his battalion to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, and was engaged in active service in the Peninsula of Gallipoli, where he met his death, in his 36th year.
