The records I have of my great grandfather, Peter Helders say he was part of No. 3b (Licensed Victuallers) Is there by any chance a photo of this group?
Thank you.

Thank you so much. Appreciate your quick response. I take it not everyone is in the photograph as there are way more names than people.
Is there any information on what action this group saw?

As far as I am aware, the Cape Town & Suburban Town Guard acted purely as a defence force, a bit like the Home Guard during WWII. As such, they did not see any action, and did not receive South African campaign medals.

Seeking some assistance with one William Burnham. William attested to the Cape Town Town Guard on May 20th, 1901. States he was formerly of the Cape Town Guard.

His attestation signed by Lieut. N. Solomon and provides William's regimental number as 87, and that he was posted to "B".

Presumably B Company, however there appear to be at least two: B (Railways) and B (Observatory). How might I distinguish? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

A Private W. Burnham is listed in the Souvenir of the Cape Town & Suburban Town Guard as having served with No 27 (Cape Times) Company. The officers of the company were Captain F.L. St Leger and Lieutenants E.J. Edwards, W.T. Wilson, C.E. Solomon and C.R. Goodspeed.

His attestation papers seem to suggest two periods of service with the Cape Town Guard, which could explain the "B" (opposed to No 27). The above book was published in 1901, so the nominal rolls might not include Burnham's second posting in May of that year. He does not appear on the Railways Company roll, and annoyingly, the book does not include B (Observatory) Company.
