Hi Bugz, I'm new here, too and still trying to find my way around the forum. I had a quick look at some rosters. I don't have anything on the CTHG but came across a William Miller in the Western Province Mounted Rifles and he is listed as having served as a Cape Town Home Guard. Not sure if this is your man but here's the details:

William MILLER
Age: 18,
Trade: Upholsterer
Previous service: Town Guard, Cape Town
Mother: Rachel Miller, 8 Russell St, Capetown
Enlisted: 11 June 1901 Capetown
Reg. no. 895

Bugz,

I can confirm Mark's information. The QSA roll for the WPMR lists William Miller (WO100/278 p287) as previously serving in the Cape Town Town Guard.

The Melbourne Argus on 16 Jan 1901 reported:

THE CAPE TOWN TOWN GUARD

LONDON, Jan. 14.

The movement for forming a town guard at Cape Town has been very successful. A force of 8,000 men has already been raised.

There is no medal roll for the CTTG in WO100 but there are enrolment papers which is very unusual.

David

The following posts contains pictures of the Cape Town Town Guard taken from Creswicke. My grateful thanks to Henk for his help with this work.

Pictures of the Cape Peninsula Regiment are also included as the two units were synonymous.
