Evans,

If you use www.findmypast.co.uk or www.boerwarregister.com you can see the first names of the 'H Evans' IY - takes some of the guess work out and speeds up your research.

There are two Harry Evans and two Henry Evans - I have found Harry/Henry to be interchangeable.

Harry Evans:
37966 27th bn
42978 163 Coy

Henry Evans:
34238 75th coy
3709 29th coy (Henry Salisbury Evans)

There is a Lt HB Evans IY whose first names I cannot find out.

Papers are on FindmyPast for most of these chaps so you can check if the biographical details match the chap you are searching for.

Good luck.

I know that my relative Harry Evans was in the 27th battalion Imperial Yeomanry, he was a Trooper, service number 37966. I am trying to find out why he was discharged on the 18/09/1902.

What does it say on his papers?

How long did he serve with the IY?

Evans,

By 18/9/1902 the war had been over for nearly 4 months so the logical conclusion is that by that time his services, like those of many others, were no longer required. The medal roll says he was discharged in South Africa which suggests he intended to settle or at least stay on for a while there.

Regards

David
