On the subject of Kruger's image, can any member tell me something about this statue? Bought online 5 years ago, it is heavy (1.1 kg) solid bronze and 17 cm tall (without the socle which I added). It is unsigned and looks like mass production and of relatively recent date. Nonetheless the item has some charm and I wonder whether it was produced for some specific event.

Thank you EFV, an interesting piece (against the backdrop of a superb collection of ZAR badges!). I haven’t seen a similar piece. Perhaps the artist took at least some inspiration from Anton van Wouw’s statue of President Kruger, including the cane a top hat, but with a few different interpretations: Kruger is now sporting a moustache (which he never had); and the Presidential sash? is worn under his coat.

In 1897, the photographer Plumbe and Bradshaw took a number of photographs of the President in full regalia, which served as a basis for Anton van Wouw’s study for his iconic statue.

EFV, while I can't add anything about the Kruger bronze stauette, I'd be very interested to see your OVS and ZAR badges - how about a new thread on Boer insignia?

Original Photo of Paul Kruger in exile, 1902.

In this member’s humble opinion, the finest studio photograph of the President in exile, taken at Oranjelust, 1902, by Corine Ingelse (Utrecht). Another photograph from this session, not listed in Changuion, serves as the portrait of the President in Gedenkschriften van Paul Kruger, a early edition (Amsterdam, 1902, Premie van Het Nieuws Van Den Dag).

Tunguska, I agree, superb picture. The photograph below was taken in August 1901. It is signed by Kruger and Interestingly he inscribed it with "A memento of my temporary stay in Europe" The photo is included in a large album with 34 plates entitled "Noted South Africans"and was kept at the South African Embassy in Washington D.C. in the 1930's.

I seem to remember there was some discussion a while back regarding Kruger's facial hair, specifically whether he ever sported a moustache. From these postcards, with photographs taken in Lourenço Marques and Marseilles, it seems that for a very short period of time, during October/November 1900, he did indeed have a "full set".

This might help date the figure posted by Everhard earlier in this thread.
