There will be a Spink sale in a few weeks time containing siege currency. I look forward to seeing that.

Mafeking Pound note VF for type. Single fold in the centre. Small lift mark on the one penny impression

DNW auctioned two siege notes yesterday. The first did not sell. The second sold for a hammer price of £160.

Siege of Mafeking, £1, March 1900, serial number 550, hand numbered and with Urry-Greener signatures, ‘Bassendean Vellum Loft Dried’ watermark, soft central crease, a superb original extremely fine, and a lovely example, rare in this grade.

Sold in February 2020 for a hammer price of £2,400.
