Hello Justin,
Exactly, he was only seconded, I did not say that he was not, I think, from memory, that there were another ten or so officers, that were also attached, but, none of them were in the regiment.
What I did actually say was that he was not a 21st Lancer.
If you are looking at it from that point of view, you can say that he was in the Grenadier Guards as well!
Regards Frank

De Montmorency was serving in his own unit and his medal and clasp was issued on the 22nd of November 1901 from "his" own Scouts in WO100/259.
Interestingly, upon reading this post, I thought of Thomas Byrne Victoria Cross, but, whilst he is on the 21st Lancers roll, his medal appears to have been issued from the Scouts roll too.

Hi,
A while back I saw a group to a Captain Dauncy of the 21st Lancers. From memory he had a QSA and a KSA as well as a single BWM. He was reputed to be a charger. Can this be confirmed ?

I found this photo of the officers and attached officers of the 21st Lancers. The photo was taken in or before the Sudan campaign.

I can see more research is needed on this thread.

The photo was taken from The Egyptian Soudan, its loss and recovery by Alford and Sword. The book was published in 1898 so I was wondering why these officers are bearing black armbands?
