Gentlemen,
WLSC was a officer in the 4th Hussars, not the 21st Lancers, he never served in that regiment, he did go forward and hold a commission in both the South African Light Horse and then the Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars.

Churchill was seconded to the 21st Lancers during the Sudan campaign and rode in the charge at Omdurman so honours evenish between David and Frank?!

Best wishes,

Justin

Back to the jolly old medal group, chaps - surely if he rode at Omdurman (or was just polishing the horse brasses at HQ),he would have been awarded the clasp "KHARTOUM" on the Khedive's medal.
Is there a roll for the attractive Khedidive's Sudan Medal 1896-1908? Meurig would probably know.

If Charles Clark was on duty with his regiment on the day in question and did take part in their charge at Omdurman, the rolls show his entitlement very clearly, like a number of his regiment, he did not receive the Khartoum clasp.
I did a very quick head count and there appear to be another thirty five Khedive's without a clasp.
The group is sadly missing the KSA, Chark served in South Africa from the 25th of November 1899 and spent time in the Johannesburg Remout Department, he arrived home on the 2nd of November 1902.
