Well said! I now have first-hand experience of how private hospitals in South Africa function and why they are so profitable. My only other admission to hospital was in 1953. It was to a Catholic sanatorium and I suspect that the nuns there did not have a profit motive. Times have changed!

Two days ago my 84 year old step-mom was been admitted to hospital,in Cape Town. When lunch arrived yesterday she did not get any...on asking she was told "you did not ask for lunch" I kid you not! Well, this morning she did not get breakfast ..."oh there must have been a mistake" it arrived awhile later and was cold! Let it be known that she was a matron in her day and took nuring rather seriously....I suspect those slack staff members will remember her stay for years to come...

Sign of the times it would seem.

Back to reality...looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at the meeting.

We should start a new forum just on health care in SA! A nurse in my ward was asked if she liked working in the Hillcrest Private Hospital, which is like paradise compared to others in this region. Surprisingly, she replied that she would prefer to have a job in a government hospital, because there nurses did not have to work so hard, and the financial benefits are better.
