Neville, a very nice set of plates. The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam dates these to around 1910. What strikes me is that the images depicted look from the time of the first Boer War in the early 1880's. Is this because of Dutch laziness to source up to date material or do you think that the plates were designed (and produced) before 1899?

Everhard,

Two of the smaller plates have different marks: "SOCIETE CERAMIQUE / MAESTRICHT / MADE IN HOLLAND". As far as I can gather the "Made in Holland" mark was first used in 1891, so these two, at least, appear to be from the ABW period. However, it might be significant that they are not in the Rijksmuseum set. Back in the 90s I remember seeing some of the others described as First Boer War (at Alexandra Palace Antiques Fair), so could the set have been re-issued with additional scenes for the ABW?

On the other hand, it was not unusual for Continental artists to depict British soldiers in outdated uniforms and kit, as the postcard below illustrates.

The two smaller plates, with the "Made in Holland" marks ....
