Ian
I never managed to get a copy of "Featherbed Soldiers"; anyway, I am more interested in 1st NSWMR and the 6th NSWIB due to their different and very effective roles in the campaign. However, I do have a copy of "From the Front" (A.B. "Banjo" Paterson's despatches from the Boer War). Paterson was a Special War Correspondent for the local papers here in OZ from 11/99 - 7/1900 and devoted a good thirty pages to "Operations Round Colesburg". He writes very well and his accounts do have an immediancy.
Even if you do run down a copy of "Featherbed", I strongly suggest "Banjo's" Despatches as a cross check. If you are in OZ, I can do some photocopying of Banjo for you.
Let me know your thoughts.
Regards
IL.

Hello Ian,

Thank you for your response. I am in England and both of these books are difficult to get hold of.

I have started writing but I am actively gathering information on all units who played a part in the Colesberg Operations. I’m starting to look at the Australians and New Zealanders and need to source the best reference material as I will be looking closely at them all. Therefore any suggestions from forum members would be greatly appreciated.

Regarding ‘At the Front’: I’d love to read the Colesberg section so any way that you could copy the pages, ie photograph, scan or photocopy (I’ll happily pay for postage) would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Ian

Hi Ian,

Not sure if you have seen this but this is an excellent site for Australians who fought in the Boer War:

Here is Major Eddy's entry:
members.pcug.org.au/~croe/ozb/oz_boer_more.cgi?record=6214

Bye the way there is an account from this website from a Boer who saw Major Eddy when he was shot:

Hi Shaun,

Thank you very much. I haven’t seen the first one at all and it’s good to have both links. I really ought to keep a list of links as currently my iPhone reading list is huge. I create a link every time I find something but I think a more disciplined approach is the way forward and I would be able to find things much easier.

Kind regards

Ian
