I was quick shocked to learn of the passing of Meurig Jones who will be well known to members here as SWB.

A post on the BMF says 'He had sadly had a relapse of an aggressive condition that he had been in remission from, but sadly the return was so aggressive no treatment was possible.'

I cannot think of a time when I saw Meurig and we did not have a chat about research, QSAs or the Boer War, He shared his research here on a regular basis and many of us with have used the Boer War records on FMP and searched for locations in his gazeteer.

His passing is a great loss to many and also to the wider community.

That is very sad news, and comes as a great shock. Far too young, and with so much more to contribute. Meurig’s death is a huge loss to the ABW community. RIP Meurig.

I was shocked to hear of his passing.

I loved his blogs and Facebook posts and will miss his knowledgeable insights.

His legacy lives on through the work he has left us.

Indeed this is a shock. Meurig and I have corresponded a few times, he has helped me with my research and his Gazetteer is an incredible resource which I constantly refer to. I had hoped to meet him one day. This is very sad news.
