In the center of the frame at the bottom, looking up, a Victoria Cross, a brass plaque, The Mystery Object, and then another brass plaque.....

The object is a model of a Russian 64 pdr gun, captured at Sebastopol in 1854. The model was made by apprentices at H.M.A. Naval Dockyard, Garden Island, Sydney.

Hello Ian,
So what is it about spring offensive that interests you in particular?

I once spoke to a chap who was at Lone Pine; modest and unassuming. I really don't know how they did it. For me, the sight of the list of V.C.s won by the A.I.F. during the 1918 German Offensive and Allied Offensive always leaves that prickle up the back of my neck.

Thank you for confirming my suspicion. My eyesight must be improving, news that will depress my ophthalmologist, who has taken to relying on me to subsidise the luxuries in his life.
