At St. Cuthbert's Church, Halsall, near Ormskirk, Lancashire. Four lights make up a memorial stained glass window.



Below the windows is this beautiful plaque.

To the beloved memory of WILFRID ASTLEY BLUNDELL, Lieut. Grenadier
Guards, eldest son of Canon Blundell, Rector of this Parish, and Adelaide his Wife,
daughter of the late Sir Francis D. Astley, Bart. Who died a gallant Soldier's
death at the Battle of Belmont, South Africa, November 23rd 1899, aged 28 years.





Below the plaque you can see the remains of two hooks where, until 1948, a sword hung - Wilfrid Blundell's? When the Bishop of Warrington visited St. Cuthbert's he ordered that the sword be removed from a House of God.

Was the sword returned to the Blundell family? The direct family line appears to have disappeared now so the sword could be anywhere.
