One of the Joys of Old Age is having the time and chance to go thru all the items you have accumulated and saved over the years. While going thru the several large boxes of photographs I have acquired since 1953, I came across this photo.

The slouch hatted Trooper ? Appears to be holding a .310 Martini Cadet Rifle. A strange choice for the ABW but I set it aside to post on the Forum. Days later and some more digging I found this second photo.

This appears to be a Native(?) armed with a .310 Martini Cadet as well. And lo and behold, the background is the same.
Checking my code on the rev. Both were purchased in an old cardboard box in 1967 in one of the many old bldgs surrounding Bermondsley Mkt.

HELP, I am going Bonkers. Are these ABW or what ?
Thanks, Baden Powell

Hi BP,

I'm afraid I can't answer you question as to whether or not these are ABW. However two great images and I'm grateful for you sharing them. Well spotted on the rifles. As I have interest in rifles from this period (specifically the Lee-Metford/Speed), I'm always trying to look for images to see what rifles are being used.

You commented on your age BP but there's not much wrong with your eyesight..:) :)

Thanks again.

Cheerio,

Roy

Roy - That's only because I had double eye surgery Nov/Dec and have 20/10 in one eye. Right eye still has probs, i.e. macula degeneration and many laser hits. Can't shoot well so can only look at long guns.
Thanks for your compliment. BP

Hi BP,

Well whatever they did, it seems to be working for you, so well done.

I must confess I'm more of a collector than a shooter and if my last range trip was anything to go by, my skills are going a little down hill..

Cheerio,

Roy

Hi J......

I don't think that the second picture is BW maybe American Indian Police??????

The first picture looks like Imperial Yeomanry, clues, Hat, Putties and Ammo belt......

Great pictures.

How about Town Guard for picture 2? Could explain the non-uniform.
