I picked this little locket up today in Richmond North Yorks while visiting the Green Howards museum.
One side is a photograph of Kitchener looking quite young so wondered if this would be pre-Boer war.
The other side has another photograph, can anyone indentify him?

Hi Paul....

These were quite common during the Boer War and seeing the picture of Kitchener I would say yes.....

The other picture looks like Major General Sir Archibald Hunter.....

Have the bezzel checked you might find out that it is gold......

Ah Mike,
I knew I could rely on you for a swift answer!
Thank you for the info, not sure if its gold it smells more like brass.
If it is gold it was a bargain at £5 ;)

Paul,

I have a feeling that the other man is Major General H.A MacDonald CB DSO who committed suicide in 1903.

Hello Adrian,
Yes it certainly looks like him, just read about him, not the greatest end to his career

I think it is Fighting Mac too.

A very sad end to his career as you say.

Best wishes
