Again on the topic of this very medal and a quick question. If a man was killed in action in South Africa in 1900, is there any way that he should have a 1902 Coronation medal in his group? Is there any way that it was posthumously awarded?

I doubt it.

Many years ago, a list of the Cape Colony and Natal recipients of the 1902 Coronation Medal was compiled and published by 'Mac' Bisset. He had found the relevant medal rolls in London and, by now, they may well be online.

Although Bisset admitted that there might some omissions from the roll he compiled, he stated that it was composed of men who were in the contingents that attended the Coronation in London. So, the men had to be there to get the medal.

Thanks, I thought that would be the case. A group is coming up in auction with this medal, but the recipient was KIA Spion Kop!!

I tried to get the list from the National Archives, which is a free download, but with the standard runtime errors, was not having much luck.

As usual, I am envious! You could start a new topic (QSA/Coro combinations) with your examples!

Doug,

The inclusion of the 1902 Coronation Medal is odd in the group to Captain G M Stewart. The catalogue fails to explains its presence.
