The Terrible and Powerful were the largest cruisers in the world during the late 1890's. HMS Powerful was built by the Naval Construction and Armaments Company in Barrow-in-Furness. They were built to compete with the newest Russian Cruisers. Both HMS Terrible and HMS Powerful proved very very expensive to build and cost twice the cost of the Edger class built a few years earlier. After the Boer War, she was refitted 1902 to 1904 and went into the reserve fleet. She was used as a troop ship in 1915 and from 1915 as an accommodation ship until the late 1920s. She was renamed TS Fishgard III. She was scrapped in Jul 1932.

Hi Mike,
Been to see a medal dealer today who sells a number of QSA's who says that the one to J Kelly STO HMS TERRIBLE is "right" and so I now have to find him! image three is not very good I'm afraid.
Below are mine.
Walter Edward Morse is my Paternal Grandfather (Zululand Expeditionary Force)and the second is also a Stoker JJ O'Flaherty. With my Grandfather the fob "badge" is for both South Africa and China.
I also have an original song sheet for the civic reception that was given the crew on their return from the China Station by Portsmouth Corporation.

Oh!, you'll find my grandfather under the name of Moorse - they spelt his name wrong in the lists and on his medals!

regards dave m
