Hi,
My name is Kim and I live in Ohio, United States. I am searching my family history and found that my great grandfather, David Wallace, fought in the Boer War. My main objective is to find information leading to his parents and grandparents but I will start with what I have- a photo of the medal he received. I've always been told that he was born in Scotland but recently learned that he was born in Holland and was a British Subject by Parentage. He lived in Scotland after the war but I cant find any records of him in Scotland prior to that. Wish me Luck! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I don't have a clear understanding, yet, of what the transcriptions on the medal represent. I'm just starting my search.

Thanks- the information stamped on the front is Victoria Regina et Imperatrix. The information on the back edge is South Africa. The bars are Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902.

Hi Kim,

And welcome to the forum.
What Mike was requesting was the impressed or engraved naming along the rim of the medal.
See here www.angloboerwar.com/medals-and-awards/b...-medal-naming-styles
This will show the Rank, initial and surname and also the Regiment unless of course it is blank?

Cheers
Paul :)

Thanks Paul and Mike,
I will see if I can contact the family member who holds the medal and see if he is willing to share with me. I appreciate the feedback. I will post the info if and when I receive it.
Thank you,
Kim

Welcome Kim,

It will be interesting to see how the medal is named. From there we should be able to help you.

Best wishes
