Frank Kelley wrote: Okay, so it appears just second hand published source rather than any actual physical evidence or a family source, it is often difficult because you need to know where the information actually comes from in the first place and in the second if it is accurate, or not.
In the case of the British Army and SAMIF you will find there are not very many possible candidates, I was going to nominate a certain gentleman of that name in the Connaught Rangers, who, whilst was born in Galway, it appears he was born in Gort and about circa 1867 or so.
The obvious thing to do is establish your family tree first, beyond all reasonable doubt and move on from there, because you would not otherwise be able to examine any surviving papers without knowing exact family detail needed to say whether or not you have found the correct man

Thanks Frank. I am trying to establish my family tree :-) I wish I did have a family source, my mother would have loved the fact I am now interested in this. I will continue looking :-)

My post duplicated with yours Frank, thank you :-)

The rest of the family were born in Clough, Gurteen so not sure now. Its a huge age gap for Irish siblings too. So ..... as you say I best keep looking.

I will come back when I find a birth date. Thank you so much again

I found his date of birth and place.

DOB is 1 Apr 1881 in Clough, Gurteen, Athenry, Co. Galway. Thomas Glynn (no second name)

I have searched but cant find anything on findmy past or the civil record Irish site. Can you suggest where I could search now?

Thanks

Okay, so you are saying this man is your ancestor, but can I ask how you know this man is the same man that is shown in the first link you provided in your second post?

Thomas Glynn who was born in Clough is very definitely my mother's grandmothers brother. The reason I first linked to the articles before knowing more about him is that extended family members were invited to a talk on him. I have linked to the talk below. I have also tried to contact J Cunningham at NUI Galway but he is on research leave for a year.

I only found out today that they were invited when I asked more questions about Thomas's half brother Martin (United Kingdom Second Lieutenant Worcestershire Regiment 10th Bn. attd. 2nd Bn. Age: 24 Date of Death: 29/09/1918 I.A.6.)
