TOPIC:

John Sullivan 5 years 2 weeks ago #66754

My great-grandfather was John Sullivan who fought with 41 (Hampshire) Company 4th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry. That is all I know about his early life and I would like to know where he was born. After serving in the Boer War, he settled in Shepherd's Bush in West London where he went on to have 9 children with my great-grandmother, Alice Renirer Larkin. I would be very grateful to receive any information on John Sullivan.

Thank you, that would be great. I have never been able to prove the rumours that he was born in Cork and 1939 page is damaged which is very frustrating.
Appreciate your help.

John Sullivan married Alice Hall (widow) nee Larkin in Fulham in 3rd quarter1912. Marriage register Vol 1a page 807
Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate that would give us information about JS's father ?

I do have the certificate but it isn’t very helpful as he was also John Sullivan and was deceased at the time of the marriage. No occupation. If my research is correct, Alice wasn’t widowed as I found her ex-husband living with a different family. I assume John and Alice didn’t marry sooner as Alice was still married to Charles Reginald Spencer Hall. The family story was that John met Charles during the Boer War but Charles died. John has promised to look after Charles’ family if anything happened to him so John travelled to London to find the Hall family, eventually marrying Alice. I was quite sad to find that the story wasn’t true.
