Here's more on Michael Quigley, who died of typhoid and is buried at De Aar - photo shows the garden of remembrance at De Aar

The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

I find it rather odd that WO97 confirms his father, Thomas and four brothers, Francis, Mitchell, Patrick and James, but, makes no mention of either William or Michael, are you sure about the identity of this man?

So far I have discovered that one, Thomas service number 4090 did a period in SA, hence my interest in this valuable source of information site. I am no historian, merely trying to get a better picture of all aspects of service back then and hopefully add Thomas with pride to the family tree. Thomas had a brother William and a brother Michael. It is said they also joined up but no proof yet. Regards etc etc

Thanks for the welcome djb
I am really new to forums and reseraching
4090 Pte T Quigley made it home and married, children and all that.
his Brother 5510 William Quigley Connaught Ranger ended up a vagarent marrying a couple of time with no service in SA
The third brother remains a mystery, Michael Quigley. It was written I have just discovered by grandson of Thomas (above) that Michael Quigley joined the Third Leinster Refiment in 1895 at Birr (Ireland) and served at Crinkle Barracks (Ireland) The number 651 is associated with him. Where as I have no documentated proof he served during Boer War and unlikely he did as suggested by posts on here, the relative wrote that Michael died in 1900 while in service with Lancaster regiment. NO trace of him after 1900 in Ireland. What would you suggest is my next move or do I have one. There is the 7461 Michael Quigley in Boer war but its not him is it, could possibly have died in service but not in SA. Bit long winded but just dont know how to proceed or am I at the end? and not realising it TKS again
