'ministerial' ?? Or 'magisterial'??
More likely to perhaps be the latter.

Mike yes I am truly lucky in that respect because my GF was Robert D his father was Robert D a stone mason in Tarkastad and according to his death certificate his father in Scotland was also Robert D a weaver .
A question for the group, are there any records for the "other side" ? My wife's parenting has roots on the Boere side, POW Ceylon .
Thanks guys.
Robert

Welcome to the forum, Robert.

With regard to your question about insignia, I do not think the smaller Town Guards would have worn any Tarkastad-related insignia.

There are some records on the Boer side, There are records on this site about POWs. If your relation also applied for his Boer War Medal, there will be additional paperwork.

Use this site for your wife's relative Robert - very easy to use - simply type in the surname and scroll through the options/names.

It's "Attorney General's Ministerial Division". There were many government departments, but only six or seven ministers in the cabinet, so the departments were grouped into "divisions", each under a minister.
