Good evening, firstly thank you for the add to the group. Would any one know of the badges and insignia, if any, that was worn by the Town Guards? After a long search I have discovered that my great grandfather served in the Town Guard at Tarkastad and was entitled to the QSA CC medal I have found a medal and am now looking for the Cape Colony clasp. It would be most appreciated if anyone could help on both counts. Regards, Robert Drummond

Hi Robert

Men who served with the Tarkastad TG and/or DMT did NOT qualify for the Cape Colony clasp unless they served in another regiment and earned it off their roll.

Please double check this before going to the trouble and expense of buying a CC clasp. Perhaps post the relevant medal rolls here and we can guide you?

Dave, Wow thank you for that, are you able to decipher the sentence or entry in the last slide? I am putting together a family history based purely in the military roll of my family and this is further back than I ever hoped for. which is really magic, but with no picture of my GGF I would sure like it if they had some sort of tie in to the unit identification and possibly hard copies of the roll.

I think the last photo reads: Private, Special Police, Tarkstad District Attorney's Volunteers (Cannot make out this word) District, Cape Colony.......
