Pity there's no date for the Standerton photo. I asssume its the 2nd Boer War as James Charles was in London in 1881 age 18 (age 20 on the Census) before he disappeared .
The Census was taken on the 3rd April 1881. My records show that the 1st Boer War ended 23.3.81
Charles Robert never left the UK.

My mother told me that Brother Charlie went away and was never seen again.

Just discovered that Charles Lawn 44 Batt RFA was born in 1881 at Armley, leeds.

What a revelation.
