Hello my grandfather served in the Boer war and I am trying to find out which battles he was in.I have all his medals and am very proud to be looking after them. He also served in the 1st World War but sadly was killed in action in October 1914.

Hello, my grandfather was James Henry Barnett. I only know details from WW1 he then served in the King's Own Light Infantry 2nd battalion. His service no.then was 3/1877, he died 29/10/194 He was a private.I know where in France his memorial but know nothing of his service in the Boer War, except the medals which I now have.
The medals have South Africa 1902 and 1901 on bars, another has Transvaal. Orange Free State, and Cape Colony on bars.
I would be grateful of any help
Many thanks Lyn

Hello Lyn
There are 3 James Henry Barnett's with service records on Find my Past.
One matches the clasp details from the QSA/KSA medal you mention, will have a closer look when I get a spare moment.

Hello again,
I would be very surprised if any of your grandfathers service papers have survived, as he was killed in the Great War, moreover, given that information, his original papers should not be in WO96/97 anyway, could you tell us exactly what it says on the edges of the Boer War medals.
Regards Frank
