Superb Meurig,
Of late it has been the other way for me, papers to a man who never served in WW1, which should have been in WO97 and were actually in the burnt WO363 and then another who should have been in WO97 but I found 17 years later in WO364, very annoying as they were not available the first time round! :(
Regards Frank

His pre-WW1 service papers do survive on WO97 - www.findmypast.co.uk . There are also a set of militia papers - WO96.

As Frank said earlier this should not be the case as he served in WW1 but happily these exceptions occur.

The service number shown is 5884 which I would take as correct.

He served in SA from September 1900 to October 1902.

It is not easy to determine the battles he served in because he only got "state" bars. You will need to read around on the activities of the KOYLI.

Regards
Meurig

Thank you so much Frank for the info it is very helpful just to know a little about the Boar war even if I don't find out the battles he fought in.
My father never knew him and I promised myself I would find out whatever I could
I am slowly learning how to navigate these sites and an so grateful for any help.
His other medal has South Africa 1901 and 1902 on bars.
Thank you again so much Frank
