Greetings to all who read this and a belated happy new year as well from sunny and tropical Northern Ireland

I have loads to say and loads to ask with reference to the 1899 - 1902 campaign. Hope I will be able to assist others with my limited knowledge along the way too.

From this forum I see a wide and varied area of interests that this period of history still generates which is great because at times it appears to have been overlooked. My interest in this period is primarily focused on the 1st Btn Connaught Rangers because my great uncle served with the battalion from 1899 to 1902 as a Private before being transferred to the 2nd Btn stationed in India. I have his medals and they proudly display the battle bars of "Relief of Ladysmith" & "Tugela Heights".

Further advice, assistance, a warm welcome etc etc will of course be appreciated.

Cheers,

Aaran

Hello Aaron,

Welcome to the forum. Having heard the weather forecast for NI last night I hope that sunny and tropical may soon return to the area!

Those are a couple of hard-won clasps on your great uncle's medal.

I wish you well with your research.
