Hello.

I am currently trying to find out the history of my family and have come across the attached photo of my nans uncle, she believes he was in the Boer War. My problem is i have no idea what rank or regiment the man in the photo was a part of. My nan says it was taken in about 1897. So i thought if anyone would know it would be someone on the forum. Id appreciate it if you could give me some info on the uniform if possible.

His name was James Vaughan, he was born about 1878
My nan has said that she thinks he died during the Boer War

Okay,
Lots of J Vaughan's on the casulty roll and medal roll, but, looking at the uniform, I was thinking Rifle Brigade/KRRC, have to have a think about him.

Yes i am having alot of trouble. Thank you i will have a look into it, i was wondering if it would be some sort of Horse Regiment because of what looks like a riding crop that he is holding. I have tried looking for the insignia that is on his lower arm but dont really know where to start. I know very little about the Boer War. Any help would be great.

I don't know, is it a crop or a swagger stick, men were encouraged to buy them and walk around with them, so as not to put their hands in their pockets!
I just thought "Rifles" because of the colour of his belt and the dark shade of tunic he is wearing.
