Hello Klaus,

A ribbon for the Natal 06 will be rather easy to obtain.

I am not sure where you reside but here in SA they come up often on a local auction site. www.bidorbuy.co.za

They cost a couple of Rand per inch.

Hi Adrian,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I have been doing some further research on the subject of the ribbon and agree that it seems reasonably easy to get on the web, even on some UK websites. Unfortunately, I don't believe in buying on the internet. I just don't like giving out my personal information. I believe even Paypal was hacked recently. I live in Los Angeles, California, and the chances of me finding that particular ribbon locally are rather slim.

How's good old SA? My wife and I grew up there (Pretoria) before we came to the States 13 years ago.

Regards,
Klaus

Hello Klaus,

I have sent you a Private Message re: the Natal ribbon.

Life in SA is much the same as always. However, living in Durban we enjoy the sun and of course the fact that we "Klapped" the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup a few weeks ago:lol:.

Cheers

Hi Adrian,

I received your private message. Thanks a lot. I will contact your friend as soon as I get a chance.

Unfortunately I have not been able to keep up with SA rugby and cricket here in the states. No TV coverage at all. It's mostly baseball and gridiron football here. Oh, and basketball. No offence to any Americans who might be checking out this site.:)

I have a new topic, and maybe I should start a new thread on this, but here goes anyway.

I have not seen any reference to German South West Africa on this website. I would have thought that since SA and SWA had so many parallels and interactions with each other, especially before WW1 and since they were allies during the Boer War, that it would be worth having a section on them.

The reason why I am mentioning this is because I think this is a great website and because a family member on my wife's side was in the Schutztruppe during the uprising 1904-1906.

We have various documents including his "Abrechnungsbuch" (accounts book, payment record), "Führungszeugnis" (certificate of good conduct) and 4 different certificates that state that he had been awarded a medal.

We would like to find out which unit he belonged to and of course what happened to the medals.

Maybe you or someone else can direct me to a website that can help me find the answers.

Regards,
Klaus

Hello Klaus,

I certainly hope that Steve will be able to help you with the ribbon.

It seems to me that your quiery with regards to GSWA is from a German perspective. Perhaps the SWA/Namibian Archives would be of assistance?

This a long shot of course but perhaps worth a try.

I have never dealt with them before so cannot give you a heads up sadly.

Hi Adrian,

I finally managed to send Steve an e-mail regarding the ribbon. As you said, hopefully he will be able to help me.

I tried the Namibia Archives but did not get anywhere.

I am currently checking out some other possibilities. There is one other very interesting website that looks promising. I don't know if you are familiar with www.gmic.co.uk . (Genleman's Military Interest Club). These guys are sharp. If you are interested, I can keep you posted.
