Good Morning Everyone.....

Just checking ebay and found this.....

This Jewel has not been previously recorded and brings the total to 6 known First Contingent Jewels known to exist.....

It is to bad that there is the damage to the suspension and the attempt to remove the name.....

The last PERFECT one that I saw sold in 2006 went for L 650.00 at an auction in the US.....

Mike

Oh. Yes - I do not have any contact with the seller.....

Hi,

As a Worcester resident I couldn't resist the above rather sad example of the Worcester Jewel. It was given to 7282 John Edward Connelly from Cradley Heath, Staffordshire, age 30 in 1899 and a member of the 1st Contingent IY. His papers show his occupation as Surveyor and Civil Engineer and he was a member of The Society of Architects. Intriguingly he is also noted as having received the Ashanti Star but without any previous military service other than in the Worcester Hussars. I can only presume that he was in Ashanti as a civilian but I cannot find him on the roll or in McInnes and Frazer. An interesting entitlement anyway and a bonus.

Paul
