This beautiful 1:12 scale model of a 12-pdr Q.F. Naval Gun was sold through Bonhams on 30 April 2014, for £2,375 GBP.

The gun is shown on a Pedestal Mark I Mounting, which was designed for use with Torpedo Boat Destroyers. The Naval 12-pdrs used for land service during the ABW were on S II Mountings. SEE: The Naval 12-pdr QF 12-cwt Guns or “Long Twelves”

Handbook for the 12-pr. Q.F. Guns (1906 edition), Plate VIII

On 10 May 1900 a silver model of a 4.7-inch QF Naval Gun on Scott Mounting was presented to Captain Lambton, H.M.S. Powerful, by the County of Durham (Illustrated London News, 19 May 1900, p. 686). Captain Lambton was the brother of Lord Durham, the then Mayor of Durham.

Inscribed: “PRESENTED TO / THE HON. HEDWORTH LAMBTON / H.M.S. POWERFUL, / BY THE COUNTY OF DURHAM / AS A MEMENTO OF HIS GALLANT AID IN THE DEFENCE OF LADYSMITH / FROM 2ND NOVEMBER, 1899, TO MARCH, 1900. / DURHAM, 10TH MAY, 1900”.

The Hampshire Post, 18th May 1900

H.M.S. “POWERFUL”.

PRESENTATION TO CAPTAIN LAMBTON.

Captain the Hon. Hedworth Lambton, R.N., of the Powerful, visited Durham, on Thursday, the 10th inst., and was accorded a most enthusiastic reception by the citizens. He was met on the outskirts of the gaily-decorated city by the Mayor (Lord Durham) and members of the Corporation, who tendered him a hearty welcome. Escorted by a guard of honour composed of local Volunteers, and preceded by Lord Londonderry’s Band, the procession proceeded to the Market Place. There Lord Durham, as Mayor, presented the freedom of the city to his brother; and Captain Lambton, in acknowledging the honour, said he preferred Durham to any other city in the world. Captain Lambton afterwards proceeded to the University, where the Senate conferred upon him the degree of D.C.L. A banquet followed, presided over by Lord Londonderry. During the proceedings Captain Lambton was presented with a silver model, 9 inches long, of one of the Powerful’s 4.7-inch guns, as used at Ladysmith, with Captain Percy Scott’s novel gun-carriage. The day’s proceedings concluded with the University students conducting Captain Lambton to the borough boundary with lighted torches.

Not ones to miss a trick, various high-end London silversmiths quickly supplemented their stock with silver models of 4.7-inch Naval Guns which doubled up as cigar-cutters.

These first appeared in retailers' windows in 1900 and continued to be sold until at least 1910.
I have seen four examples, each with different silversmiths' marks. Despite this, all appear to be of identical construction.

Hallmarks seen:

"ED" into two circles (for Edward Dimes), London 1900 (shown below)
Dobson of Piccadilly, London 1900
"ACM Co" (for Alexander Clark Manufacturing Co), London 1903
"ED" into two circles (for Edward Dimes), London 1910

Looking at period photographs, this model appears to be based on "Joe Chamberlain", a 4.7 landed from H.M.S. Doris which saw service during the Western advance.

This looks very much like the model posted by Neville but the holes in the wheels are not centred and there is no sight.
