Mary,

I had another look for James and found his medal had been sole by Dixon Medals more recently.

It sold for £680.

The description said: Born Glasgow, Lanark 17th August 1874 enlisted 9th March 1893. Served aboard H.M.S. Terrible 23rd July 1898 to 24th October 1902 invalided 5th May 1904. James Aughton served in the searchlight train with the relief of Ladysmith Column. Seven sailors from H.M.S. Terrible ran the searchlight train which used to flash the night signals into Ladysmith (see commissioning of H.M.S. Terrible by George Crow page 363) James is also entitled to a China 1900 medal for services in H.M.S. terrible. Sold with photographs of H.M.S. Terrible's Searchlight train and photocopy roll pages.

As this is a more recent sale, I would suggest contacting Dixons Medals. www.dixonsmedals.co.uk/contact_us.php

I found the medal on this link: www.dixonsmedals.co.uk/product_info.php?...&products_id=1012889

Best wishes
David
